SPOTLIGHT
Jane Horner's Night-time Drive-by Installation
at Pine Street Art Works

This beloved South End gallery may be on hiatus this January, but Jane Horner is making good use of their windows with an installation of lit-up angular planes made of nylon and framed by red windows. Night-time Drive-by is part of a series of installations by Horner that started in 1991 at the Saint Michael's College McCarthy Arts Center. Horner writes, “I brought in 100 yards of intensely colorful fabric. My instinct at this time was primal, like taking a deep breath of air after being underwater too long. I wanted to put something in that gallery (the approach being a wall made entirely of glass that faced the campus green) that could be seen from all the way across the green. This was the first of an on-going series of site-specific site-built installations.” The installation on Pine Street is best viewed from the street during the dark hours, which, let's face it, in January is all the time.
