Throughout Burlington

“Breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain,” wrote T.S. Elliot about this ‘cruel’ month. There’s nothing cruel about Burlington’s art scene in April. On First Friday, the daffodils may not be blooming yet, but be sure to check out some of these blossoms: Tari Swenson’s “Zensho” brush painting at Amy E. Tarrant Gallery; the series of exhibitions at Pursuit Gallery presented under the moniker “4x4”; a group show of local artists using maps and blueprints as their mediums at the South End Arts and Business Association Gallery; and Lili Parson’s oil paintings at Kriya Studio. Guided Tours
Burlington City Arts offers walking tours led by staff and volunteers who are knowledgeable about each space and can answer questions about the exhibitions. Tours leave from the Firehouse Gallery every half hour, starting at 5:30PM and ending at 7PM. Tours last about an hour and visit exhibitions within walking distance of downtown.

Post-Walk

After the walk, head over to The Gallery at Burlington College for the open mic portion of Recon Soiree.

Art Theft in Burlington

A piece from the New Orleans show at Red Square was stolen. They've got the theft on tape and the police are investigating. Adding injury to insult, the artist is a displaced Katrina survivor who just gave birth less than a month ago — and the baby is sick and in the hospital. The piece was already sold and the artist could really use the money right now. Got any info? Stop into Red Square and let them know!
