2007 Art’s Alive Festival of Fine Art

It’s June and that means it’s time for the Art’s Alive Festival of Fine Art.

The twenty-one-year-old, juried arts festival includes an exhibition at Union Station of participating artists, an Art Sale on the Church Street Marketplace, and a host of other events in Burlington and beyond.

The signature element of the festival is Art in the Windows, a program to place art in shop windows of downtown communities like the Church Street Marketplace. The purpose of Art in the Windows is to bring art to the places where people live, work, and play; to make art a part of everyday life; and, in that sense, to make art alive.

Sixty-eight Vermont artists are participating in this year’s festival. The jurors for this year’s festival were Jean Fortin, director of Galerie Dentaire in Montreal; David Furney, Executive Director of Frog Hollow Vermont State Craft Center; and Marc Awodey, artist and art critic for Seven Days. They evaluated submissions for technical execution, conceptual quality, and critical value. The work is on view at the Art’s Alive Gallery at Union Station throughout the month of June.

New this year is a catalog of artists that will be available for purchase. The catalog documents the work and provides biographical information about festival artists. It is a snapshop of art from Vermont in 2007.

The festival opens on June 1st with SUNSET, an opening gala. Taste is providing the food. DJs Mike Jones and Damien Cross are providing the music. Alex Dostie will be doing some live painting throughout the opening.

On June 2nd, there is an Art Sale on the Church Street Marketplace from 10AM to 3PM.
