Sing, muse, of paintball arms and man. Above Battery Street Jeans, in the parking lot of Lightworks on Marble Avenue where it meets Pine Street, is the sprawling, high-ceilinged Box Art Studio. Naturally lit from large windows on three sides, the studio houses six resident artists: Georgia Carbone, Issac Wasuck, Rucchi, Steven Hazen Williams, Alex Dostie and Damien Cross. Dostie and company have held court among the exposed brick and steel girders for “at least” five years.

Most days see the lime-green unmarked door locked to the public, but during the upcoming South End Art Hop everyone can come upstairs for some interactive art. Viewers always project their own interpretations onto a piece, but Box Studio will go one further and let you project paint balls onto their limited edition prints for sale ($10 each).

Made especially for Art Hop, these prints will trend toward black and white or two tone subjects printed on 18” x 24” card stock. The color will be supplied by Art Hoppers armed with proper safety equipment and multichromatic ammo for the paintball gun. Leave both your regular and paint ball guns at home--everything will be supplied. Limited edition T-shirts will also be available; paint-balling them or not is up to the individual attendee. While taking a break from sending art downrange, get your portrait taken by Michael Heeney.

Georgia says the group is hoping to stress the fun aspects of working in the Box Studio. According to Dostie, “There’s going to be balloons,” “memorable” food and drink and a DJ. They’re “trying to bring the love” of this collaborative workspace of individual artists to the art-loving public by making available, interactive and waiting-period-free art for and by the public. Rapid-fire punnery to one side, it should be a ball. Don’t fail to pull the trigger on a chance to set your sights on local, limited-edition artwork by a hard-working yet fun group of local artists.
